The book first looks at growth in general terms. Its opening chapter surveys the sources of economic growth, and later chapters take up stylized facts and growth models, the quantity and quality of growth, and how policy evaluation is used in empirical growth research. The rest of the volume deals with Chile. It covers productivity and growth, finance and growth, and the "golden period" of Chilean growth, with explanations and forecasts. It also examines Chile's growth and adjustment in the 1990s, where the slowdown is traced to external shocks and to fiscal and monetary policy that did not work together.
