Synopsis

There are 16 lessons in this volume. In addition to the 16 chapter themes, this volume uses approximately 960 vocabulary words, including 294 basic level (A2), 472 advanced level (B1), a few B2 and C1 phrases, and approximately 130 non-8,000-Chinese-Words vocabulary. There are 6-8 grammatical rules per lesson that serve as a connecting link between basic complex sentences and intermediate-level articles, forming textbooks that meet the needs of elementary level to intermediate level learners. If students can master the spiraled learning progression from Volume 1’s Band A to B1 of this volume, then the student should be able to take the A2 TOCFL test after completing lesson 8 of this volume. After finishing the entire volume, students will have established a good foundations as beginner learners of intermediate level Chinese. In terms of teaching methods, continued use of direct instruction, audio-lingual method, and focus-on-form teaching methods are used to enhance learners’ language skills. Situated teaching, communicative language teaching, and task-based teaching methods are added in to enable learners to accumulate a large amount of vocabulary and overcome difficulties with new words and grammar, allow students to express themselves by using more complex sentences correctly on familiar topics, and write paragraphs and short essays with more coherent content. Therefore, students improve their comprehensive abilities of the target language such as knowledge, structure, and application.
