In this book, the daily life of ancient cavemen who roamed the Middle East approximately 20,000 years ago is described through stories of adventures woven around their lifestyle, in clear language appropriate to children. The main focus of the plot is three children who live with their parents among other tribe members in a cave in the mountains located near a river that flows into the sea. Upon the arrival of winter, the tribe travels towards a new, safer camp on the shore of a lake. The plot relies on world-renowned archaeological discoveries in Israel from two prehistoric sites – the Nahal Me’arot (Wadi Me’arot) site in the Carmel Mountain, and the site of Ohalo II on the southwestern shore of Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galilee). The four caves of Nahal Me’arot contain a 500,000-year sequence of archaeological evidence of human evolution, granting the site official World Heritage Site recognition from UNESCO. At a fisher-hunter-gatherers' camp (Ohalo II) on the southwestern shore of Lake Kinneret dating back 23,000-years (towards the end of the last Ice Age), unique remains were revealed. They include imprints of huts, campfire ashes, a burial and various tools and food remains, which allowed archaeologists to reconstruct the daily lives of its inhabitants.Ofra Guri-Rimon is an archaeologist who directed and curated the Hecht Museum at the University of Haifa from 1989 to 2015. At the museum, she established a learning center offering various educational programs for kindergarten and school-children. In 2002 she initiated and produced an exhibition titled “Ohalo II: A 23,000-Year-Old Fisher-Hunter-Gatherers' Camp on the Shore of the Sea of Galilee”. From 2010 to 2015 she was a council member of the Israel Antiquities Authority. Since 2009 she has been a member of the Council for a Beautiful Israel.
