Synopsis

This is the second volume of memoirs by major philanthropist, educationalist, and industrial innovator. Fred Worms' new book is a compendium of articles, correspondence, essays, interviews and book reviews written over the years. There are interviews with the iconic mayor of Jerusalem, Teddy Kollek; the eminent philosopher and educator, Rabbi David Hartman; the irascible and influential Professor Yeshayahu Leibowitz. Other letters and articles relate to the Talmudist Rabbi Adin Steinzaltz, a 30 year-long exchange of letters on a multitude of subjects with Sir Isaiah Berlin, and with the writer Frederick Raphael, Professor George Steiner, Natan Sharansky, among others.

À propos de l?auteur

Fred Simon Worms, OBE, was born in Frankfurt, Germany in 1920 and lived a happy and contented childhood while studying at the ultra-orthodox Samson Raphael Hirsch School in that city. He immigrated to Britain in 1937 at the age of 16. Interned briefly as an "enemy alien," he was educated at St. Paul's School in London and volunteered for the Royal Air Force but was turned down because of poor eyesight. For some 60 years, through the Fred and Della Worms Charitable Trust, he and his wife have become major philanthropists. especially in the field
