Synopsis
"The Old City of Ayudhya or as it now called ` Pranakornsriayuthaya' was the capital of the Kingdom of Siam for 417 years before Bangkok was founded. Thus, it was the historical, cultural and administrative base of the new city of Bangkok or Rattanakosin. As we look back on the story of this great Kingdom, we can learn and reflect upon where we once were, where we are now and where we wish to be in the future. The great British statesman, Sir Winston Curchill once reflected this sentiment, "A nation that forgets its past has no future". This book is a collection of rare photographs of Ayudhya during the years 1907 to 1920, from late in the reign of King Rama V through the early reign of King Rama VI. Perhaps the earliest extensive collection of existing photogrphs taken of the great city, they have captured historic places and important events of the time which together gives us a glimpse of how the city and people of "The Old City" were like a century ago."
