Synopsis

On planes, boats, buses, jeeps, motorbikes and 'tuk tuk'- or a combination of some of them - 16 reporters and photojournalists from china, Burma, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam spread out across the Greater Mekong Subregion in pursuit of their across-border stories, ranging from dams, commercial navigation, drugs, HIV/AIDS, culture or trade. The product of their in-depth coverage - stories and photo essays under the Inter Press Service (IPS) media fellowship programme 'Our Mekong: A Vision amid Globalisation'-- are compiled in this book. Through their pens and cameras, these journalists take us on a journey through this fast-changing corner of Asia. It is, after all, a combination of different political, socio-cultural and media environment, a subregion that is both urban and rural, traditional and modern, still restricted by borders and past conflicts but increasingly integrated, and separated by the Mekong river but also linked by it.
