Synopsis
Teaching text types in the Singapore Primary Classroom covers texts for academic and functional purposes which prepare pupils for the pragmatic use of language in everyday life. It also offers texts that demonstrate creative and personal expression, which will help to spark passion for reading in young learners.
This book provides teachers with useful information for teaching the different types of texts as spelt out in the English Language Syllabus 2001 and 2010. Presented in a user-friendly manner, the chapters include characteristics of the different types of texts, numerous interesting examples, and suggested (oral and listening, reading and writing) activities to help reinforce pupils grasp of each type of text.
Although the book is primarily targeted at teachers, the invaluable bibliography located at the end of each chapter will also be useful to parents for them to immerse their children in different genres / text types.
