Professor Chung of University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, received her PhD degree in Materials Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and her BS degree from Caltech. She is ranked by the 2020 Stanford University study to be No. 14 among 177931 materials scientists in the world (living and deceased), No. 1 among those that are female, and No 1 among those that are ethnic Chinese. She is a pioneer and international leader in the field of multifunctional structural materials. She has authored or coauthored 600 archival journal papers, and 10 books. Her Google Scholar h-index is 100, with 37,310 citations (viewed on 7/6/21). Chung is Fellow of ASM International and American Carbon Society. She received the Pettinos Award (an international research award) from the American Carbon Society and an Honorary Doctorate Degree from University of Alicante, Spain.
