The aim and scope of this book is to review current information on human development and processes of differentiation that have benefited from breakthrough analyses in stem cell biology, elucidation of genome and gene architecture and aspects of regulation of gene expression, analysis of signaling systems and transcription factor actions.
Insights into actions of specific genes and their roles in development have been gathered through studies in patients with specific birth defects, including congenital malformations, metabolic defects and functional impairments.
The book is organized into three sections, the first dealing with aspects of genomics, gene structure and regulation, analysis of signaling and function of specific organelles. The second section deals with molecular aspects of development of specific organs and structures such as, bone, face, brain, heart, liver, pancreas, kidney. The last section deals with specific malformations and tumors that provide insight into regulation of growth. Environmental factors that impact growth and development are also covered.

Molecular Insights into Development in Humans is well written and easy to read. It is an excellent starting point for graduate students and investigators new to the field of birth defects, and provides a very good introduction to some of the genetic and developmental pathways that are implicated in birth defects. --Journal of Medical Genetics
This book is unique in the brevity with which it is able to cover a large range of topics ... It is perhaps best recommended as a starting point or reference for further research into the genetics and molecular biology of malformations and birth defects. --European Journal of Human Genetics
The book is well written, logically presented and supported by a wide reference base. Clear subdivisions of a manageable size help the reader cope with vast amounts of information in a steady and coherent manner. This compact hardback book should prove to be popular among a wide range of readers, including students, teachers and researchers. Moyra Smith has delivered a highly informative yet practical volume on a very topical discipline. --The Biologist
