Prof. Xingjian Jing received his B.S. degree from Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, and M.S. degree and Ph.D. degree in Robotics from Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang, China, respectively; and also received a Ph.D. degree in nonlinear systems and signal processing from the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering, University of Sheffield, Sheffield, U.K. He is now a full professor with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, City University of Hong Kong. His research interests are generally related to nonlinear dynamics, vibration, and control focusing on theory and methods for employing nonlinear benefits in engineering, including nonlinear frequency domain methods, nonlinear system identification or signal processing, vibration control, robust control, sensor technology, energy harvesting, nonlinear fault diagnosis or information processing, bio-inspired systems and methods, bio-inspired robotics and control, etc. In nonlinear analysis and design, he proposed and developed a systematic frequency domain method in the past years, named as a parametric characteristic approach with a series of refereed results for analytically relating critical design parameters to nonlinear system output response. Furthermore, for utilization of nonlinear dynamics, a bio-inspired X-structure/mechanism approach is proposed and established by Prof XJ Jing for better designing and realizing beneficial nonlinearity in engineering systems with various application case studies, which have been actually inspiring many other bio-inspired studies and applications for vibration/noise/nonlinear control in the literature. His R&D team has also been working on different application-oriented bio-inspired robotic systems with a particular interest in exploring nonlinear dynamics/control and real-site applications. He has published 200+ refereed papers with 30+ patents filed in China and US, and been listed as one of Stanford's top 2% highly cited scientists. He served and is currently serving as Associate Editors in several known international journals working on nonlinear dynamics, vibration, control, and robotic systems, including IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Systems Man Cybernetics-Systems, Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, Nonlinear Dynamics, etc. He is the topic EiC in Biomimetics and Frontier in Mechanical Engineering. He was lead editors of special issues on "Exploring Nonlinear Benefits in Engineering" published in Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing during 2018-2019 and 2021-2022, and chairs or co-chairs of several international conferences or conference sessions (e.g., CMAME 2018, ACMAE 2019, ICANDVC2021-2023).
Prof. Hu Ding's research field is nonlinear dynamics and control research. He studied at Hefei University of Technology from 1998 to 2005 and received a master's degree in 2005. He received adoctor's degree from Shanghai Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Shanghai University in 2008. From 2012 to 2013, he was a visiting professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Toronto, Canada; from 2016 to 2017, he was a visiting scholar at the Department of Mechanical and Materials Science, Duke University, USA.
Dr. Jinchen(JC) Ji is currently an associate professor at the School of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering of University of Technology Sydney, Australia. His current research interests include dynamics, vibration and vibration control, machine condition monitoring, nonlinear dynamics, bio-inspired and origami-based quasi-zero stiffness vibration isolation, control of multi-agent systems, and control of predator-prey systems. He has published over 160 journal papers in these areas. He is on the editorial board for Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing (MSSP), and an associate editor for three international journals, namely, Journal of Vibration and Control (JVC), International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos (IJBC), Journal of Vibration Engineering & Technologies (JVET).
Dr. Daniil Yurchenko is interested in nonlinear and stochastic dynamics, control theory, vibration, stability, and bifurcation analysis of complex dynamic systems with application to energy harvesting. In 2001, he obtained a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, USA, on the development of stochastic optimal control theory and analysis of non-smooth systems and accepted position of Assistant Professor at the University of Miami. In 2005, he was offered a post of Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematical Sciences of Saint-Petersburgh State Polytechnic University, Russia. He received a Doctor of Science degree (habilitation) in 2007; in 2008, he received a Young Scientists Award from the Russian President Science Council. In 2008, he was promoted to a full professor and became a deputy head of MS program in Mechanics. In 2010, Dr. Yurchenko joined the Mechanical Engineering Department of Heriot-Watt University.
