Chesterton fascinates me, amuses me, stimulates me, and educates me, and I would like to introduce him to you so that you, too, can be friends.I went on to read many more books by Chesterton and biographies about Chesterton, I have now taught my elective course on Chesterton half a dozen times, and for nearly twenty years I have published a regular column in Gilbert Magazine, a publication of the American Chesterton Society. Two books have come out of all of this: The Size of Chesterton’s Catholicism (University of Notre Dame Press, 1998) and Chesterton Is Everywhere (Emmaus Road Publishing, 2013). The former began as an article in which I wanted to share my favorite quotations, but the list grew too long and I think of that book as an article with a glandular problem. The latter is a compilation of essays from Gilbert Magazine, since over those two decades I found Chesterton whispering in my ear about various contemporary issues. This book will be a combination of the two genres. I would like to introduce you to four facets of Chesterton – his critique of social heresies, his defense of the ordinary family, his conversion to the Catholic Church, and his guide to the theologically perplexed – and then end each section with several new Gilbert articles, and I am grateful to the American Chesterton Society for permission.David W. Fagerberg
