Within the ancient mythology WALUNG was evolved and derived from two terms WA [Himalayan mountain fox] and LUNG [land], perhaps a group of travellers lost their path on the snow, followed footsteps paved by WA when they arrived at the place LUNG, and settled a village, naming it Walung. Local villagers and Tibetan speaking communities call it Walung whereas Nepali speaking communities call it Olangchung Gola.The history of Walung is believed to began since naming the village. Walung is said to be 16th century old as historian estimate that the village is more than five hundred years old.
