This book has been produced for engineers and technicians who wish to work, in the offshore oil and gas industry. The book aims to provide all of the background knowledge elements required by engineers and technicians who will be applying to work on offshore rigs and production platforms. The book aims to provide a full range of knowledge from the exploration and appraisal of oil and gas discoveries, through the properties of hydrocarbons, gas flow and phase behaviour, the understanding of productions process systems and finally to distillation processes. What is not covered in this book is drilling, as the author considered this subject to be stand-alone and well covered in other existing media. Well completions is covered in some detail. Self-assessment questions and answers are provided at the end of each section, to ensure knowledge gain and retention. A comprehensive contents list is provided at the start of the book as well as an index at the end. Thereby the book becomes an on-going reference tool.

The author spent 24 years in the offshore oil and gas industry. He has worked offshore as an instrumentation and electrical engineer and installation manager responsible for production operations on production platforms, and has further been responsible for the training and competence assessment of engineers and technicians from many production companies operating in the UK and Norwegian sectors of the North Sea, the Middle East, Africa and the Far East. He therefore has extensive knowledge of offshore engineering gained on the job, as well as from writing training programmes, lecturing and training and assessment of engineers and technicians throughout the offshore production and electrical disciplines.
