This book exhaustively laid bare the challenges confronting communication policy formulation in Nigeria. From what is on the ground, Nigeria has a communication policy that is ineffective and disconnected from the stakeholders. As a way out of the quagmire, the book recommended that Nigeria as a country should have a policy that could aid the free flow of communication from rural to urban and vice versa.
The book also discussed generally how media report ethno-religious conflicts knowing fully of the fact that conflict anywhere is one of the elements that attract media attention due to the dictum that says ‘it sells when it bleeds.
The book essentially highlighted the areas where social media played significant roles in the advancement of democracy and good governance in Nigeria. The advancement of democracy and good governance in Nigeria has demonstrated the efficacy of social media use in electioneering campaigns, virtual monitoring of election conduct across various polling units, and the dissemination of post-election results, as well as serving as a medium for whistleblowing for corruption and bribery by government officials. It suggested among others that attempts must be made to get authors of some serious allegations against political office holders to substantiate them at an open forum where all the service providers, political office holders, and authors of materials on social media will be present to face each other and trash out issues bothering on good governance in Nigeria.
