In writing this book, I have attempted to strike a balance between technical detail and accessible narrative. I delve into the physical and infrastructural characteristics of Crete's energy system—its generation capacities, grid limitations, storage needs, and interconnection prospects—while also examining the policy instruments, regulatory frameworks, and local initiatives shaping its evolution. I also present case studies that highlight both successes and setbacks, offering critical insights into what works, what doesn’t, and why. Ultimately, this book is an invitation—to researchers to deepen their engagement with insular energy systems; to policymakers to design context-sensitive, forward-thinking strategies; and to citizens to participate in shaping a greener, more secure energy future. Crete’s journey is far from over, but its direction is clear: a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable energy system is not only possible but increasingly within reach.
