Synopsis

This book presents a detailed mathematical perspective on the transmission dynamics and control of HIV/AIDS. It develops a comprehensive model to study the co-infection dynamics of diphtheria and HIV, with a focus on understanding how both diseases spread and interact within a population. The model incorporates several optimal control strategies, including safe sex practices, prophylactic measures for caregivers, sterilization of medical equipment, public health awareness campaigns, and improved hygiene practices. Using Pontryagin’s Maximum Principle alongside numerical simulations, the study evaluates the effectiveness of these intervention strategies. Furthermore, a cost–benefit analysis is conducted to determine the most efficient approaches for minimizing both infection rates and the associated economic burden.
