Morning Bus, de Greg Miller, est né d’une réflexion profondément personnelle à la suite de la tragédie de Sandy Hook. En décembre 2012, en tant que parent d’un élève de CP, Miller a été confronté à la fragilité de l’enfance et à la violence incompréhensible qui avait secoué sa communauté. C’est à partir de ce moment qu’il a pris la décision de photographier le rituel tranquille des enfants attendant le bus scolaire au bord de leur allée. Pendant plus de douze ans, à l’aide de son appareil photo 8×10 inchs, Miller est revenu sans cesse sur ce sujet, photographiant des enfants dans la lumière du petit matin, dans le brouillard, sous la pluie ou la neige, parfois seuls, parfois accompagnés de leurs frères et sœurs ou de leurs parents. Ces por- traits capturent un moment fugace, le seuil entre la sécurité du foyer et l’imprévisibilité du monde, et transforment une routine quotidienne familière en une puissante métaphore de la vulnérabilité et de l’espoir. Morning Bus est à la fois intime et universel. Il évoque l’amour et la protection que chaque parent ressent pour son enfant, ainsi que la responsabilité commune que nous avons tous envers l’innocence de l’enfance. À travers plus de 60 portraits et un texte profondément personnel, Miller transmet à la fois la fragilité et la résilience de l’enfance, offrant une réflexion sur l’attention, l’amour et la respon- sabilité.

Greg Miller (b. 1967, Nashville, Tennessee) is an American fine art photographer and Guggenheim Fellow. Dedicated to working with an 8x10 view camera, he has produced several bodies of personal work over the last 20 years including Nashville, Unto Dust, County Fair and, most recently, Morning Bus, photographs of local Connecticut children waiting for the morning school bus. Miller's work has been exhibited in several solo shows in Los Angeles, Barcelona and the Cheekwood Museum in Nashville, TN as well as group exhibits in New York City, including Yossi Milo, James Danziger and Sasha Wolf Galleries. His photographs are part of the permanent collections of the Museum of the City of New York, The George Eastman Museum and the Cleveland Museum of Art. His work has appeared regularly in advertising and magazines including TIME, LIFE, NPR, Esquire, Fast Company, and many other publications.Since 1999, Miller has been a faculty member at the International Center of Photography in New York. He regularly conducts workshops at Maine Media Workshops, Los Angeles Center of Photography, Fotografiska New York and Penumbra Foundation as well as remote tutoring and private workshops.
