Koenraad Elst (born 7 August 1959, Leuven, Belgium) is a Western scholar of India whose work focuses on Hindu nationalism, interreligious relations, and the “Out of India” theory. He holds a PhD in Oriental Philology & History and has authored over 25 books in English and Dutch. He is known for his extensive writings on Hindu revivalism, Indian history, Indo‑European origins, and comparative religion. He is one of the most prolific Western writers on Hindu political thought and has produced influential — and often controversial — works on topics such as the Ayodhya dispute, Aryan migration debates, and Hindutva ideology.
