Synopsis

Some moments have a taste of eternity. They are fleeting, fleeting, yet so vivid. I've only experienced a few, but I remember them well. It was like the mystics' tales—God, how beautiful it is!—You wish it would never end, but human nature can't bear it for long. To feel for a moment that it's right to be here, in this body, in this life, in this world. To experience an intense and quiet happiness, the certainty that everything is fine as it is. You understand suffering and accept it as part of the whole. To be here and now, to desire nothing else. I want to tell you about one, perhaps the most beautiful.
It happened many years ago; at that time, Gréis and I had just barely escaped a tragedy; the sinister shadow of death had passed us by, and even though it had missed us, we still felt its shivers. We suddenly realized how beautiful and precious life is, and we promised ourselves never to waste it again; So we set out for the sea with the strange conviction that we were heading toward who knows what destiny. During the sleepless night, in the garden behind the house, I saw a tree laden with blossoms swaying in the wind. An indescribable harmony came over me, along with the desire to capture that moment; I was finally balanced at the center of existence and filled with understanding; I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else. In a flash, I saw my life, my love, my pain: everything was as it should be.
I always wait to see, somewhere, the Gréis Tree.
