Synopsis

Volume One: The Mass Explained, Mass Prayers, and Days 1–181 (January to June)

Start here. Volume One lays the foundation and carries you through the first half of the year.

Many Catholics stand, sit and kneel at the right times on Sunday and privately feel that Mass and daily life have drifted apart. This volume closes that gap. It first explains the Mass plainly, part by part, and then gives you 181 daily entries that each include a Living the Mass reflection, linking one moment of the liturgy to the theme you are praying with that day.

In this volume:

  • The foundations of prayer: what prayer is, why we pray each day, how to handle distraction and dryness, and how to pray with the Bible
  • The essential prayers every Catholic should know by heart, with morning, evening and night prayers
  • The Holy Mass explained: the Introductory Rites, the Liturgy of the Word, the Liturgy of the Eucharist, the Communion Rite and the dismissal
  • Prayers before, during and after Mass, including the Anima Christi, acts of spiritual communion and prayers for Eucharistic adoration
  • Days 1–181 in six monthly journeys: beginning the year with God; love, mercy and forgiveness; repentance and renewal; the Cross and Resurrection; walking with Our Lady; the Sacred Heart

Each day follows the same eight steps, so the pattern soon becomes familiar: Scripture, opening prayer, meditation, Living the Mass, prayer for today, intention, practice of faith and evening prayer.

The book asks boldly for ordinary needs and promises no guaranteed outcomes. It was written for people who are tired, worried or returning after a long time away.

The journey continues in Volume Two with Days 182–365, the Rosary, novenas, litanies and prayers for life’s trials.
