In Iran, the “movement for the abolition of wage labour” claims to take its ideas straight from Marx: “Marxian”, not Marxist. Its leading figure, Nasser Paydar, has published his own rereading of Capital, and the movement dismisses Marxism as Engels’ invention.
Internationalist Voice tests that claim against the historical record: Marx and Engels on 1848 and the Paris Commune, the decline of capitalism, the trade unions, the German Revolution and Rosa Luxemburg. It finds a leftism dressed up as councilism, with labour councils that are councils in name only and a nationalism it never admits to.
Against it, the book defends the tradition of the communist left as the only horizon for the working class.
