Synopsis

Two neighboring countries — Chile and Argentina — share a language and an intertwined history, and yet display two collective temperaments that are almost opposite: the methodical order of one, the communicative brilliance of the other. That everyday observation is the spark behind “The Path of the Sky”, an essay that takes seriously a question rarely asked out loud: can a nation's birth date reveal something genuine about its character?

Starting from Carl Gustav Jung's concept of synchronicity — that "acausal connection" between an inner event and an outer one, bound together by meaning rather than by cause — the book crosses the national day of twenty-six countries with its corresponding zodiac sign and, through it, with the Jungian archetype that sign represents. The result is an honest exploration — light and shadow both included — of how those archetypes show up in each country's identity and in its relationships with others: the United States and China, India and Pakistan, Germany and France, Iran and the United States, among several other tensions and alliances read through this lens.
