Synopsis
She runs the boat yard. He's the charming one — which she trusts a great deal less than the ice.
Del Okonkwo has spent eleven years under a sign that says her father's name and the words AND SON. She's forty-one, she's the best pair of hands on this coast, and she has never once told anybody in Harrow Bay that she needs a thing.
Then Cassius Rask brings his dead mother's sloop into her shed and asks her to make it whole — and spends an entire summer four feet away with his shirt off, being a problem.
Cassius has stopped talking. After what came out last winter, the town's warmest man has gone cold, and nobody can read him, and Del is starving for information she can't ask for.
Meanwhile a grey hire car keeps coming down her yard road. And a marine surveyor from the mainland keeps asking her to dinner. And there's a hole under her slipway that will take the end of it off in four winters.
Everything Del owns is about to be worth something for the first time — which is exactly the problem.
