Synopsis

A journalist is dead.
The tide was supposed to hide the truth.

When investigative reporter Dominic Shaw is found beneath Eastney sea wall after a violent storm, his death appears to be a tragic accident.

Detective Eliza Calder is not convinced.

The position of the body, the missing evidence and the behaviour of the tide point to a carefully constructed lie. Dominic was killed somewhere else, moved to the shoreline and left for the sea to erase.

His unfinished investigation leads Eliza through Portsmouth’s port, where politicians, contractors, police officers and corporate executives all have reasons to fear what he uncovered. At the centre of it is the Cabinet: Dominic’s secret archive of documents, recordings and allegations capable of destroying careers and exposing crimes buried for years.

Eliza has spent her life questioning official versions of events. To find Dominic’s killer, she must separate the secrets that caused his death from those people would kill to keep hidden.
