Synopsis

On the first day of school, the arrows on the wall couldn’t agree.

Laura Ferrari is fifteen, she has a new school and nobody to talk to. On the third day she notices something no one else is looking at: every so often, in that building, the sound moves away. Voices arrive from further off than they are. It lasts four seconds. Then everything goes back to normal and nobody says a word.

The following week it lasts five seconds. Then eight. Then eleven.

Laura starts counting, and by counting she finds four people willing to believe her: Marco, who talks too much; Sofia, who would solve a robbery by filling in a form; Carlo, who always stands near the exit; Lisa, who keeps time. Together they work out that the number isn’t rising at random, that in this school a class stopped existing in 1944 without anyone noticing, and that the building has a precise way of taking people.
