You can have everything but the accident.
Kevser is sixteen, and nobody looks at her. She keeps the books in her grandmother's Turkish bakery in Lake Worth Beach. Since the accident she doesn't go out. Her world is the length of one counter: a laptop, a register, and a timetable — her five o'clock, her quarter past seven, her ten.
Her grandmother tells her everything: the flour man's thieving, the neighbor's knee, her running argument with the radio. Now, every Sunday, she puts on her good coat and lies about where she is going.
On the local news, men have started to fall: an arrest on evidence from nowhere, a hit-and-run nobody saw. Sergeant Ruiz talks about it over his coffee, over her head.
And every August an envelope comes from a man who would like to be forgiven. This year it says they are thinking of letting him out.
A slow-burning suspense novel about a family, told across the fifteen weeks from August to November.
