Synopsis

Roman Arden taught his children never to sit with their backs to a door. On the night he died, he chose a diner booth that left him exposed.

The security camera went dark for nine minutes. Roman was alive before the gap and dead after it.

Dominic wants to bury a father who taught him how to survive but never how to trust him. Gabe still believes Roman's secrets must have had a reason. Their sister Sofia is tired of being protected by being kept in the dark.

Then the brothers open Roman's lockbox. A key leads to passports under other names, foreign currency, a recording, and a phone that lights up with a message meant for Roman's sons. Someone knows they have found the trail.

As the siblings follow it, Roman's secrets begin to reach into their own childhood. The people protecting those secrets are still watching. The closer Dominic, Gabe, and Sofia get to the truth, the more they must rely on the habits their father left them—and decide which parts of him they refuse to carry.

The Memoirs of a Terrible Father is a novel of conspiracy, family loyalty, and the cost of a father's protection.
