Synopsis

NOW UPDATED FOR MINITAB 22!

Statistical tools like ANOVA, correlation, and regression have been used around the world to solve seemingly impossible problems in manufacturing and quality engineering.

The majority of engineers and scientists have had little exposure to how these techniques fit into a day-to-day shop floor workflow. This book has been written using the author's 30 years of practical industrial experience, aimed squarely at practicing engineers and scientists rather than academic statisticians and mathematicians.

This guide takes a graphical, hands-on approach using a software tool called Minitab to diagnose variation, isolate root causes, and build predictive models.

The author concentrates on each step of using these techniques with clear explanations along the way of every decision point. Readers will find this guide both practical and useful, with copious screenshots of the software in use and precise instructions. The emphasis is on moving seamlessly from troubleshooting process drift to establishing robust predictive controls and setting the stage for advanced optimisation.

Key Points:
  • Provides core statistical tools and techniques for practical business, process, and quality improvement.

  • Introduces screenshots and step-by-step explanations for running ANOVA, Tukey groupings, correlation, and regression in Minitab.

  • Features real-world engineering walk-throughs—from isolating machine outliers to generating predictive equations (y = mx + b) for precise process targeting.

  • Serves as the ultimate capstone guide and prerequisite bridge into advanced frameworks like SPC Made Easy and DoE Made Easy.

  • Extremely useful for engineers and scientists who want to solve quality, process, and manufacturing problems quickly and easily.

About the Author
