Synopsis

He built machines that could last a lifetime. Then a 5kg box from China made him obsolete.

Adeoti wanted only one thing at seventeen: a skill that would feed him for life.

He found it in Baba's workshop in Sango-Ota, winding copper by hand. At eighteen, he built his first 30kg welding machine. By 2000, in Ifo, Ogun State, he was king. Eight workmen, distributors in four towns, Secretary of the Welders Association, two cars under the mango tree.

Then the inverters came.

Small. Silent. Cheap. Forty-five thousand naira in Alaba Market. They ran on a small generator and fit in a backpack. Adeoti laughed and called them China fake. His wife Morenike begged him to learn. He refused.

By 2016, his workshop was silent. By 2018, his wife and sons had left for Laderin. A church offered him 8 million naira for his compound, the history he built with his own hands.

To save it, the 49-year-old master had to do the unthinkable: become an apprentice again to Bayo, a 31-year-old phone repairer in a half container shop.

ADAPT OR PERISH: The Technologist is not just about welding. It is about what happens when technology moves and pride refuses to move with it.

Inside you will discover:
• Why being the best at an old technology is the most dangerous place to be • How Adeoti lost customers, income, and almost his marriage to ego • How he built his comeback with hybrid machines, old body with new heart, and turned his workshop into a training academy
A Nigerian business fable for welders, tailors, mechanics, printers, shop owners, and anyone who has ever said, "my own is different."

Adapt, or perish.
