Give a brilliant mind the wrong file and it will hand you a brilliant wrong answer. The intelligence was never the bottleneck. The briefing was.
We spent a few years convinced that the secret to working with AI was the prompt: the clever wording, the magic phrase, the right way to ask. Then the models got good enough that the wording stopped mattering, and something else moved to the center. Not what you say to the system, but what the system can see when it answers. Its context.
A More Beautiful Context is a working guide to that shift. It treats context engineering as the oldest human skill there is: briefing a capable colleague. Handing over the right materials, in the right order, with the noise stripped out, so good work gets done without you hovering over every step.
At its core is a simple framework, FRAME, built on three questions you can ask of any context:
Source: what you bring in. Retrieval, grounding, and where your facts actually come from.
Select: what you leave out. The harder discipline of relevance, ordering, and economy, because more context is not better context.
Sustain: what persists. Memory, state, and knowing what to forget.
From there the book gets practical. A hands-on FRAME workout, worked teardowns of real contexts that failed and why, a tour through thirteen professional fields from healthcare and law to finance, software, education, and journalism, a field guide to the ways context quietly goes wrong (the junk drawer, the buried instruction, the confident stranger), and a closing look at what changes when context stops being read and starts being acted on by agents.
It's written in plain language for the person who has to ship, not the person who wants to admire the theory. No hype. Just the craft of deciding what a capable mind most needs to see.
This is the second book in a trilogy that runs from prompting (A More Beautiful Prompt), through context, to agents. You don't need the first to start here. The prompt will keep.
If you work alongside these systems and you're tired of brilliant wrong answers, this book is about fixing the briefing.
