Synopsis

Some things are easier to admit when nobody knows whose paper they are reading.

Rowan Ellis has always believed that hard work can solve almost anything. If she keeps her grades high, earns the right scholarship, and stays one step ahead of everyone else, the future should remain safely under control.

Micah Reed makes that difficult.

He is charming, perceptive, frustratingly capable, and the one person standing between Rowan and the top academic rank at Calder Ridge High. When they are forced to co-direct Senior Legacy Night, their rivalry begins to shift into something neither of them planned.

At the same time, Rowan joins Second Draft, an anonymous writing program where students exchange deeply personal essays with partners identified only by pseudonyms. As NORTH, she begins telling BLUE truths she has never trusted anyone else with. What Rowan does not know is that the person behind BLUE is much closer than she realizes.

When anonymity, attraction, and a painful secret collide, Rowan and Micah must confront what honesty really costs, whether trust can survive betrayal, and how much of themselves they are willing to let another person truly know.

Tender, witty, and emotionally layered, The Things We Don't Grade is a contemporary young adult romance about academic pressure, first love, friendship, identity, forgiveness, and discovering that a meaningful life cannot always be measured by scores, rankings, or perfect plans.

Perfect for readers who enjoy slow-burn romance, academic rivals, anonymous correspondence, emotional tension, dual perspectives, and coming-of-age stories with heart.
