Synopsis

A clown arrives at the Wintering Ground. There are no children.

Cassian Crewe — nineteen years as Mister Glee — has been engaged for a birthday party past the last pumping station, by a letter written on paper soft as cloth. What he finds is a woman in a gray coat, a rusted carousel, and a room below the water table with a drain that opens into something older than the rock.

The curing takes the length of the book.

RICTUS is a novel of geological horror and the laugh under the laugh — told as a journal, threaded with cut-up transmissions from a consciousness older than water and excerpts from a manual of husbandry no one admits to writing.

The fold can be folded the other way.
