Synopsis

The idea of Junk yard poetry, a form of beat poetry comes out of both the content and method of writing. The main purpose for writing the poems, which are based on current events, is to have a poetic response to the news and events that face us. Some of the themes for this book include the collapse of Afghanistan, police brutality, environmental destruction, death by drones, references to Japanese business and governmental practices, Mars Rover, 9/11, British politics, Facebook, Steve Bannon, among others. The current events that are referenced date from August to December 31, 2021. The sources for these poems, and the images, words, phrases, and concepts, come from a long list of Cuban and American poets. There are several poetic devices that were used for these poems, including end rime, internal rime, alliteration, and tercets. Each poem integrates the news event with poetic language.
