Synopsis

Cameron Hurst has a wife, two kids, a mortgage, and a browser history that is becoming increasingly difficult to explain.

At thirty-nine, Cameron is not having a midlife crisis. He is not unhappy. He is not gay. Probably. Mostly. The point is, straight married men do not secretly research luxury gay retreats called Gaycation in the middle of the night while their wives sleep upstairs.

Except Cameron does.

When his wife, Claire, catches him reading the FAQ page, Cameron panics. Then he lies. Then he books the trip anyway, telling himself he needs one week to answer a question he has spent most of his adult life avoiding.

Gaycation promises seven days of no labels, no judgment, no pressure, and absolute discretion. What Cameron finds instead is a resort full of men negotiating their own versions of secrecy, shame, comedy, desire, family, and public exposure. There is Luke, a divorced father hiding behind jokes. Teddy, a recently out teacher trying to be brave in better pants. Dwayne, a polished executive whose privacy has become a second skin. Ezra, the resort’s theatrical activities director and emotional traffic controller. And Marco Mendez, a man far too grounded to let Cameron mistake attraction for absolution.

But Gaycation’s slogan — what happens on Gaycation stays on Gaycation — is a lie. When private footage from the retreat leaks online, Cameron’s fantasy of consequence-free self-discovery collapses. Claire is no longer waiting at home for an explanation. Marco refuses to become Cameron’s escape route. And Cameron has to decide whether becoming honest is worth what honesty will cost.

Funny, sharp, painful, and deeply human, It’s Not Gay If It’s Gaycation is an adult LGBTQ+ dramedy about marriage, secrecy, late self-recognition, queer visibility, and the difference between finding yourself and asking everyone else to pay for the search.
