Synopsis
Within the pages of a decades-old grimoire lies the incantation for a ritual waiting to be cast. The spiral calling out through the fabric of time for the one who will summon the creature that will awaken at its uttering. Abandoned at birth, Eveline Dumont is a witch adrift in a world that she fails to fit into, her own coven feeling less like a family and more like a cage she wishes to escape. Isolated from her own twin, Beau, who was raised by the coven leaders as if he were their own, Eveline seeks something to fill the void that leeches into her life when alone. When she first finds mention of the spiral in the dust-filled tomes in the coven library, she stops at nothing to complete the spiral ritual and summon the creature that will bring her immortal life.
While the summoning takes root, Eveline finds herself centered on targeting the new town preacher, Matheus Thorne, whose religious fervor ignites a witch hunt. Falling into an obsession with dragging him down into the mud he slings onto others, she triggers a chain reaction as accusations and witch trials begin across their normally dull, quiet town. Madness abounds as bodies are drowned and pyres are lit, the twins both crescendoing towards deadly consequences as a vampyre lurks in the shadows of Mourn Hill. Bound in blood to the creature, Eveline will stop at nothing to complete the ritual and stop Matheus's reign of religious terror, but when the spiral demands a sacrifice, whose blood will be spilled?
