Synopsis
When the Canudos Massacre takes place in 1897, Alfredo administers the last rites to Antônio Conselheiro and receives a secret mission from him. Alfredo was Conselheiro’s right-hand man and the leader of his personal guard—the Catholic Guard. After receiving the secret mission from the holy man, Alfredo flees the scene of the massacre with his family and spends twenty-eight years wandering the country's interior in search of Lagolândia, the land where the holy man of Belo Monte prophesied the appearance of Santa Dica de Goiás.
