A Note to the Reader
This book exists because a distinction is being collapsed — and the collapse is costing children, families, and systems something they cannot afford.
Sexual reactive behavior in a child or adolescent with attachment disruption and developmental trauma is not the same clinical phenomenon as sexual offending. The behaviors may look similar from the outside. The pathways, the internal architecture, the risk profile, and the required response are not the same. Treating them as interchangeable produces two simultaneous failures: reactive children are permanently mislabeled and subjected to interventions designed for a different population, and genuine offending risk is sometimes missed because the field has lost precision in its language.
This volume is written for the parent who has been handed a label and felt the floor drop. For the clinician who knows the differential exists but needs a framework precise enough to defend it in a school meeting, a staffing, or a courtroom. For the educator who is responsible for safety and accuracy at the same time. For the system professional who has been trained to report and refer but not always trained to differentiate.
It is not written to minimize risk. Safety is non-negotiable. It is written to restore clinical precision so that safety planning, treatment matching, and long-term outcomes are built on the correct architecture rather than on fear, institutional convenience, or diagnostic shortcuts.
You will not find Band-Aid behavior charts here. You will find the DR. RAD™ frame: attachment, trauma, neuroception, co-regulation, and the parent as Level 1 therapeutic agent — applied specifically to the most charged behavioral presentation families and systems encounter.
Read it with a pen. The distinction is the intervention.
