A door schedule calls out a ninety-minute fire rating. The written specification names the acceptable hardware. A structural beam leaves a mechanical duct nowhere to go. Which document is correct, and which one governs when two disagree? Print reading is rarely taught as a single, connected skill. Apprentices and journeymen typically learn it piecemeal, discipline by discipline, from whoever happens to be mentoring them on a given project, while construction management students often study project delivery and contract theory without ever tracing a real conflict between a drawing and a specification through to its resolution. The result is a common gap: a reader who can interpret one discipline's sheets well but hesitates the moment a note says "see structural," and who is never quite sure which document governs when the drawings and the written specifications do not agree.
