Synopsis

For two seconds on a Tuesday morning in March, every living thing on Earth sees the same vision: a dark room with a distant point of light.

When the world returns, it is not the world it was.

In County Clare, on the limestone plateau of the Burren, a small farming community discovers that reality has thinned. Substrate pulses through drystone. Craobhacha and Cú Sídhe come up out of Thin Places the old people always knew about and never spoke of. And ordinary people find themselves walking paths — Builder, Mender, Caller, Guardian, Breaker — whose abilities carry both extraordinary power and specific, unnegotiable cost.

Ciarán Malone, a structural engineer, learns to read the substrate through the drystone walls of his own land. His wife Aoife builds the database that becomes the community's memory. Father Peadar translates a language he has never heard. And a seventeen-year-old girl named Siobhán discovers she is the only person who can seal the Cill Mhuire breach — and what that will take from her.

Forty-two people. Farmers, teachers, doctors, a priest, a handful of veterans, and one six-year-old brindle pitbull named Suzie. No army is coming. Cahernagloch decides, meeting by meeting and cost by cost, to hold.

A system apocalypse with the patience of literary fiction. Paths, abilities, Familiars and Resonance, braided into the slow rhythms of a real place: stone walls, kitchen tables, tea drunk lukewarm, the specific October light on limestone.

Book One of The Thin Places, a planned six-book series.

For readers who want their progression fantasy rooted somewhere that feels real.
