Summer 1984. Kat and Russ have been married for seventeen years. It should have been the best of times, not the worst. After five years in Vietnam, Russ returned home, and they began their life together, but it wasn’t always the blissful marriage they hoped to enjoy. Both of their pasts still trouble them; for Kat, a past mistake she can’t forget, and for Russ, the memories of a war that still haunt him.
For years they have struggled to begin a family, but after several miscarriages, Kat has become withdrawn and quiet, a shell of her former self, no longer the fighter, but a victim. For her, God still remains distant and seemingly unconcerned by her situation. Perhaps, God hasn’t forgiven her after all for her past sins.
