Synopsis
The Moon is moving away from Earth. The impossible part is that it never accelerated.
When lunar observatories detect an unexplained eight-centimeter error in the Moon’s predicted position, JPL scientist Maya Chen assumes the cause must be faulty equipment, corrupted data, or a mistake hidden inside decades of orbital calculations.
Then observatories around the world confirm the same result.
As the discrepancy grows, spacecraft tracking reveals an even more disturbing contradiction: the Moon’s position has changed, but its velocity still belongs to its old orbit. No known force can explain the difference.
