Synopsis

Doris Shelley Shades wakes to a burning bedroom curtain, a bleeding foot, and a note: Sorry, Babe. I had to leave.

Her ex-footballer husband has cleaned out the account and gone — ruined by financial advice even the taxman thinks was criminal, and now circling what's left of the house.

Her response isn't grief. It's logistics. It's revenge.

By the end of the week she's recruited her needy, malaprop-prone neighbour Wilma as an unwilling accomplice, poisoned the wrong relative, and turned her own kitchen into a small but thriving drugs-and-escort operation — all in service of one truly ugly, urgent goal: keeping every footballer's wife's LV lifestyle intact.

Doris, it turns out, is extremely good at this. Good enough that the underworld starts listening to her — right up until she stops asking permission.

Which is how a debt to an old teammate turns into a "simple courier job" abroad — and how a package Doris is told contains jewels turns out to contain something considerably more dangerous. By the time she's home, "keeping the lifestyle" has quietly become something much bigger.

Doris Has Had Enough! is a pitch-black comedy about the gap between what a person is willing to feel guilty over and what actually deserves it — a woman who commits the worst atrocities without a flicker of remorse, but genuinely cannot forgive silver foil, white bread, or a badly loaded dishwasher.

A scorned woman who wants revenge.
You'll laugh even though you know you shouldn't.

For readers of Tom Sharpe, Christopher Brookmyre, and Ben Elton on a very bad day.
