Synopsis

On Sacred Grounds is a collection of haiku about the search for grace, meaning and spirituality. It is dedicated to the Divine.
Divided into Morning, Afternoon, Evening, and Night, these poems move from dawn into the night as a journey through awakening, wonder, devotion, contemplation, darkness, death and rebirth. Nature is felt everywhere: orchids bloom, swans drift, butterflies fly by, autumn leaves fall, snow settles in the forest. Yet among these familiar images lie stranger worlds of gods and monsters, dreams and machines, myth and mystery.
The poems move freely between the ancient and the modern, the intimate and the mythic, the mundane and the mystical, the ordinary and the sacred. Likewise, each poem can be read as its own small world, but their arrangement in this collection is itself meaningful, inviting several layers of interpretation.
At once contemplative and imaginative, On Sacred Grounds invites the reader to slow down and look again at nature, at myth, at the experience of our days and our relation with the sacred. The brevity of the haiku lends itself to the discovery of hidden meanings within even the smallest moments, while the collection's unfolding day cycle gradually introduces moments of gravity, eventually touching on the tragic.
From the first light of morning to the final darkness of night, these haiku form a cycle of transformation, ending where all endings become beginnings.
