Leena Das has spent six years keeping Mariner Court running while building a carefully contained life for herself and her daughter. When the building’s owner asks her to sign an elevator maintenance record with one crucial line left blank, refusing could cost Leena both her job and her apartment.
Elevator mechanic Tomas Alvarez has spent those same six years respecting every boundary Leena sets. Tuesday coffee, ordinary repairs, and a friendship neither of them dares to name have become the most dependable parts of his life.
Then Tomas discovers falsified safety records and takes Mariner Court’s only elevator out of service. With fifty-eight residents facing displacement and a twenty-one-day repair deadline closing in, Leena and Tomas are forced into the same fight.
Working together brings years of restrained desire dangerously close to the surface. But Leena has learned that help often comes with strings, and Tomas must understand that protecting someone cannot mean making her choices for her.
To build a future together, they will have to prove that love can offer safety without taking away freedom.
