Synopsis

In a forgotten valley in eastern Spain, heritage specialist Neus Alberola is sent to assess the remains of L’Harmonia, a model agricultural colony founded in 1894 by Tomàs Ferrer, an idealistic emigrant who returned from America determined to build a different kind of life.
L’Harmonia promised shared work, equal voting rights, free education for boys and girls, fair access to water, and dignity for the families who lived there. But by 2026, almost nothing remains: an arch, an old washhouse, a fragment of irrigation channel, and a solitary almond tree standing in the path of a new solar plant.
When Neus begins searching the municipal archives, she discovers that the colony did not simply fade away. A crucial truth was deliberately left unwritten—a decision that exposes the distance between the ideals people proclaim and the compromises they make when someone else is forced to pay the price.
As the past begins to speak through forgotten documents, Neus must decide whether her duty is to preserve a beautiful legend or to tell the truth, even if doing so costs her career.
Blending literary historical fiction, contemporary drama, and quiet suspense, The Good Years is a moving novel about memory, community, buried injustice, and the courage required to put difficult truths on the record.
