This book was not born in a library. It was born in a waiting room — in the exhausted eyes of the people who came to us having already tried everything else. They had stayed quiet when told to stay quiet. They had taken the high road when the high road led nowhere. They had waited, as so many well-meaning advisors suggested, for the truth to come out on its own. And still the damage mounted. Still the whispers spread. Still the person who had wronged them stood in the center of a sympathetic circle while they stood alone on the outside, pressing their face against the glass.
At Dr. RAD The Attachment Code Breaker in Lakeland, Florida, our clinical and coaching work sits at the intersection of attachment theory, trauma psychology, and relational healing. Over the years, a recurring pattern emerged among our clients: the person who had inflicted the most harm was almost always the loudest voice proclaiming victimhood. The person who had betrayed, manipulated, or abused was the one preemptively building a case. And the genuine target was left holding nothing but confusion and a ruined reputation.
We began calling this the self-portrait principle in our practice sessions long before we named it formally. A client would describe the accusations being leveled against them, and we would gently ask: "Does any of that actually describe the other person?" The answer, again and again, was yes. The charges of dishonesty came from the dishonest. The accusations of manipulation came from the manipulator. The claims of cruelty came from the cruel. Every smear was a canvas on which the attacker, without realizing it, painted themselves.
