Synopsis
The last major eruption of the supervolcano at Yellowstone National Park was 630,000 years ago. That eruption was so large volcanic ash accumulated in measurable amounts as far away as present day Louisiana. Massive eruptions from the Yellowstone volcano have occurred over the past two million years at time intervals spaced about 600,000 to 800,000 years apart. We are now 30,000 years into the recurrence interval. It is not a question of “if” Yellowstone will erupt again, but “when.” What if that next eruption was due very, very soon?
