Divine Speech and the Logic of Mediation in Shia Theology: A Study of Tawheed, Revelation, and the Role of the Ahl al-Bayt - Couverture souple
Synopsis
This book explores one of the most important questions in Islamic theology: how does Allah communicate with His creation while remaining absolutely transcendent and unlike anything in creation? Drawing upon the Qur’an, rational theology, and Shia teachings, it examines the nature of divine speech, revelation, and the role of divinely appointed guides in conveying Allah’s message to humanity.
Beginning with the Qur’anic framework of divine communication, the book analyzes the theological challenges of attributing speech to Allah in a literal human sense and explains why divine communication must be understood in a manner consistent with Tawheed. It then develops a logical argument showing that Allah’s use of prophets, angels, revelation, and the Ahl al-Bayt as means of guidance does not imply dependency, but rather reflects His wisdom in establishing a divine order.
Special attention is given to key Shia concepts such as the Ahl al-Bayt as the “Tongue of Allah,” the primordial covenant of “Alastu bi Rabbikum,” and the nature of divine communication during Mi‘raj. Through careful reasoning and textual analysis, the book demonstrates how these teachings preserve the purity of monotheism while affirming the central role of divine guidance.
