Synopsis

Samson is a fenced in black lab. When his human friend leaves for school, Samson straightens his collar and jumps the fence.

He meets up with his friend pack and they travel throughout the Reed College campus. They travel through the paths and lake and eventually get to the cafeteria where they beg for food using "puppy dog eyes". Samson goes to the radio station that he frequents, putting on a howling good concert for his many fans. He signs autographs. Suddenly, he realizes that he needs to make his way home after he looks at his watches. Should he take the busy street filled with cars or the dark forest ? Samson makes the decision to go through the forest, but he must not get distracted by a birds, squirrels, or deer. He makes it home just in time and happy to be home.

Susan Almand-Myers is a retired Language Arts teacher of 35 years who writes this story about her first lab mix Samson.She has written alongside her many students and wanted to see this piece brought to life. Fortunately, Susan and her sister ran into Melissa Rachel Black at the Rhodedenron Gardens and found out that Melissa draws beautifully, and her illustrations illuminate this fun story.Susan has a B.S. from Portland State University and a M.A.T. from Lewis and Clark College. She has three sons and daughter-in-law, husband Stan, and two wonderful granddaughters.

Melissa Rachel Black has been an artist her whole life, and professionally for 13 years. She studied Fine Art at the University of California Santa Cruz and Graphic Design at Leeds University in the U.K. Her line of greeting cards has been sold in over 70 stores internationally, and she has illustrated two childrens books. Currently she is working as a pet portrait illustrator in her cartoony style and loving every minute of it.
