You’ve heard about the Alphabet
The letters A to Z,
I hope that you won’t be upset
If I take liberties,
By matching up the letters
Of the alphabet to dogs
Like Papillons and setters
When I’m done with this prologue

For this is the “Arfabet”
And every poem in here,
Names a buddy or a pet
That somebody holds dear

Fuzzy, shaggy, bald, or curly
There are some of every type,
Dogs that work and get up early,
Pups of every hue and stripe

The poems are all kinds of verse
From triolets to haiku
Some are “doggerel” or worse
I hope that this won’t bug you!
So let’s explore some dogs with rhyme
And maybe share a smile,
